About

Ethan Race is a Scottish-born filmmaker based in New York City with over 10 years experience.

Born and raised in the Scottish countryside, his first short film “CONFLICT”, premiered at the British Film Institute in London, won ‘Best Drama’ at the BBC Blast Future Film Awards of 2008, and was broadcast on BBC2 to millions of viewers. As a result, he was awarded the opportunity to write, direct and edit another short film titled “RAPTURE”, which premiered at BAFTA and was also broadcast on BBC2.

In London, he graduated summa cum laude from Middlesex University with a BA in Film, Video and Interactive Arts, completed and self-distributed his first feature-length film “TEMPLE WOOD” as his thesis, and worked as a producer and editor at CY Film Productions on over five feature-length television documentaries.

His video art work includes “OUR OWN RIGHT HAND THE CHAINS MUST SHIVER”, which won the ANIMA Film & Music Awards 2014 and was shown at the London Thames Tunnel with a live orchestra accompaniment, and “(CAUGHT)” which won ‘Best Experimental Film’ at New York City’s Fine Cuts 2017.

His narrative films skirt the boundaries of surrealism and social realism, exploring the subjective experience of socioeconomic class in contemporary society.
